pocket daily

Been talking about how fruitful the past few weeks of my holiday were... and if you were wondering why, here's why:

1. I finally set up my little pocket journal (!!!) hahah which is none other than this tiny space you're reading right about now.

2. Finding new reads. I started digging for things to read for the past few weeks. It has thus far been fruitful as I add a few new magazines to my little library this June. They are all so marvelous with well-thought layouts and captivating pictures I can't decide which is actually my favourite!

If you fancy a new magazine to pick up, try:
+ Real Simple for neat tricks and tips for (seriously) simple living. It's everything you need for a quick getaway from reality with its mouth-watering recipes (complete with pictures!) as well as some heart-warming stories about life and reviews on books and more.
.

+ Smith Journal is one of the last magazines I laid my hands on (courtesy of my wonderful boyfriend, Calvin! yay) I've yet to finish up with it but I love the stories and concepts they share whether it's related to someone, something or how we should feel or be. It captured me in an absolutely different way and is definitely worth a read if you don't mind trying something else other than the regular fashion magazine.

+ Monocle for its interesting ideas and articles about things that are happening around the world. June's issue talks about transport, and the bulk of it includes commuting (attention all bicycle lovers!) and some political related issues as well. Plus a pretty rad fashion feature on Maison Kitsune's as well as Monocle shop's stuff.

3. Also, I've been working and training (pretty) hard, or actually, very hard. My efforts are coming off quite well I think!

4. Rekindling/ affirming my love for marketing through my time at work. Selling shoes has been more than just a job, it's become something I love. Working to sell a pair of shoes sounds like easy but there's a lot more science to selling a product than what we really think. And through different scenarios on the shop floor, I finally understand managed to grab a few more pointers and expand them with relation to marketing on a larger scale.

5. Start driving classes. Now a step closer to that paper license woooohoooo!

Ok this marks the end of my random mess of thoughts.

I'm planning to make some hotdogs from the recipes of the Real Simple mag. I hope I'll be able to share them... if they turn out yummy enough that is.

Good day!

Things: davidelfin

Who knew that pantone or CMYK blocks can look this fabulous? Extremely wowed over by davidelfin and their cutesy designs this spring/summer.

(Cute and quirky) things I love: Shirt s/s and Navy Short both from davidelfin

How cute is this! These happy color inspired clothing are extremely pleasing to the eye. Thanks Anabel for the heads up, I love it!

Anyway, quick bit about this Madrid-based label...

Davidelfin started as a plural medium for David himself and for a few of his friends as well. It was a platform for them to express themselves through mediums like fashion and photography, then morphing into a fashion label that made its debut in 2002.

The label has since been integrating their love for the various arts into wearable fashion. Expect well-cut, clean designs, with color or pattern blocking on their designs.

Shop and check out more on davidelfin right here!

Andddddddddd Monday's here again. But good day!

Fresh!

Summer thingsssssss (I love!):
Brixton Hats, Bensimon Les Tennis Hawaii PlimsollsHeti's Colors for ASOS with interchangeable lensesReal Simple - July issue

This summer you can:
1. Make Brixton hats your summer staple if you're looking for a addition to your wardrobe
2. Complete your look with a pair of sunnies with interchangeable lenses (blue and red) from Heti's Colors
3. Grab a pair of Hawaiian Bensimons to match all your colorful basics
4. Get yourself a copy of Real Simple. This month's issue just looks extra juicy with cheery colors and recipes!

In love with too many things there's no room to put it all down but at least I managed some! Been wanting to lay my hands on so many fancy dresses for the summer but I can't seem to decide which is prettier. Woes of being a girl yes?

Also I can't seem to get enough of Paper Romance by Groove Armada. Thanks Jin! It's been on replay for a bit. And for anyone that loves PNAU, there's no way you can hate this. Super catchy stuff!

Been drowning in a lot of new reads and setting out to explore new stuff/music. Can't wait to surprise myself hahah. All in all, this holiday has been rather fruitful with a good balance of work, fun and training (very hard indeed).

Rest beckons, goodnight!

Always Like This - Bombay Bicycle Club #nowplaying

Hello Wednesday!

Here's some Bombay Bicycle Club if you are in need of a mid-week tune ~

Managed to catch them live one time and the show was breathtaking (sorry major fangirling over here but who could hate them?!) I don't think any other guitarist could manage a fall on his back after tripping on some cables and continue rocking a song like Jamie does. Seems like standing 8 hours in the same darned spot is all justified now.

It's been an exhausting but, rather exciting week thus far. New people and explorations, as well as things to do.

Anyway I finally set up an account on bloglovin. Bombs awayyyyy!

Follow pocketto with Bloglovin

Summer Luvin'!

If you're looking for something to occupy your month long holiday here's a DIY project for you to embark on. Grab a bunch of fabrics and sew something up for the beach or just a day out or even a chill-out picnic.

Make your own nautical inspired sunny sacks (I love the one above!) and pretty picnic mats or even cute printed totes that you can carry out for a nice shopping trip. Learn how to over here.

Seems like everyone is up and about for the summer, just as we are all in sunny Singapore, except that it's 24/7! Having an intense love-hate relationship with the sun but as it is, I wouldn't mind a little snow right now.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Random: Let the underdogs do it

Oklahoma City Thunder has finally made it big.

I used to love the Lakers, because Kobe Bryant was an unstoppable force. I loved the fact that they were big, that they were one of the key teams that made the NBA. We all love being in the heat of the action, and the same goes for watching something. You want to be a part of what people know and love. They were exciting to watch. But after realizing they were overrated (and unethical at points), I switched sides.

OKC was the underdog back then, and I cheered for them, in hopes that they would show the Lakers how to play basketball.

And they did.

Two years ago, they were a young team with inexperienced players that were quick-learners. They were swift and agile, with fresh moves and a hunger for winning. They made it into the playoffs in 2010, with their first round up against the Lakers, who turned out to be the Champions in 2010. Last year, they made it to the conference finals but lost to Dallas.

Today, they are the Western Conference champions that came a long way to make history and waiting to go into the heat of the Finals once the Eastern conference ends.

We all love an underdog story, be it the kid from the village who made it as an Olympian, the team that made it to the champions despite losing all games off-season and your regular school dropout becoming the CEO of a big company. Against all odds, the underdogs make it work. We read these inspirational stories and they give us hope, that putting up a fight with all your might is going to pull you through somehow, if you put in enough.

The truth is, everyone else knows that goals have to be worked towards. Without even having to watch or read about an underdog, we all know we have to wait months or even years for results to show along with all the blood, sweat, and tears you shed for this dream to become a reality. We want to make our big break one fine day and prove it to the haters that it isn't impossible after all.

But we all love an underdog story because at some point it represents yourself, as it does for me. I'm sure there are times we feel like we're at the bottom of it all and hope we'll make it big. There's nothing wrong with that. That's probably what hundreds and thousands of people feel like everyday.

Learning about that story is like an instant perk-me-up. It's like coffee to your mornings, and feeling like you're going to nail it, FINALLY.

I'm glad the Thunders made it. It gives me hope that sheer hard work is going to get me somewhere.

Tiny Tractors (by Halfpence design) + Pocket Daily

These too-cute tractors are by Penny Luxe who is the designer/owner of her very own store, Halfpence design, and also a very lovely mom. It's really cute that she came up with these designs with the intention for her little one, Tate and decided to expand it into a little side project. You can also check out Penny's blog here.

Anyway, it's been a good start to the week. Great time at driving class and a relaxing swim with a good friend of mine, Jocelyn. We've decided to make cookies when we have the time. The holidays have been at a nice pace, I love having time to ponder about issues I usually don't have time to think about and catch up with a couple of good shows or movies, or even documentaries.

Well at the very least, we're nearing mid-week tomorrow. Now you can keep calm and grab a cup of hot chocolate and think about things you might want to do on a Friday night (other than having a booze) (;

Good day!

Inspiration: Outlier Clothing

Who doesn't love a pair of tailored pants or nice shirt that is crafted not only for aesthetics, but also for its durability, lightweight and waterproof material?

These are well-thought, carefully designed clothing and gear put together by Abe Burmeister and Tyler Clemens, the brains behind Outlier.

Outlier was created because Abe and Tyler recognized a problem - they wanted pants that could take anything, the weather, the sweat, wear and tear - and came together through the recommendation of their nearby coffeehouse barista after realizing they were both working on similar ideas, except that one of them were making shirts, and the other one, pants.

I came across Outlier and Abe's video via a friend of mine (thanks Kevin!) who showed me this video - of how someone, with zero prior experience in the fashion industry, made a label of his own. It's extremely real and inspiring; how could anyone have thought of that?

Interesting how a twist of events brought the two of them together to make quality products. Truly inspired now because you know anything can happen, at anytime if you make it work, really.

Now I really want a pair of these so I can make use of them with my future foldable bike.
